Overview
GoAir is low cost domestic airline carrier, having its main base at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. Goair Airlines or GoAir as it's known, is the aviation foray of the Wadia Group, owners of the famous industries Bombay Dyeing and Britannia. With over 561 weekly flights, GoAir provides passenger carrying services to 11 domestic destinations within the country. The airline's route network covers prominent business metropolis as well as famous leisure destinations across the country, including metropolitan cities of Delhi and Mumbai.
GoAir Fleet
The small fleet of GoAir comprises state-of-the-art Airbus A320 aircrafts. The short to medium range aircrafts have a seating capacity of 180 persons and equipped with modern technologies. GoAir carriers come in varied colours, namely green, orange, blue and pink. The airline plans to increase its fleet size to 18 March 2009 and 34 to March 2011. According to sources, GoAir has already placed order for aircrafts to increase its fleet size.
GoAir Sectors
GoAir flights fly to selected travel sectors of the country. Flights of the airline operate daily or on some selected weekdays to sectors like Ahmedabad to Goa, Delhi to Cochin, Delhi to Mumbai, Cochin to Mumbai, Mumbai to Amritsar, Goa to Delhi, Mumbai to Jaipur, Jammu to Delhi, Srinagar to Jammu and Amritsar to Srinagar.
GoAir History
Established in June 2004, GoAir started operations on November 4, 2005. Earlier, on 9 June 2005, the airline made an announcement that it intends to launch operations in October 2005 with a fleet of 20 leased Airbus A320 aircraft. Further, in July 2006 GoAir placed an order for 10 Airbus A 320 (with options for 10 more) aircrafts.
However, in mid-January 2007, GoAir announced that it planning to sell a minor ownership position to support itself with funds for expansion as well as to improve chances for the sale and leaseback of additional Airbus A320 aircrafts.
Destinations
GoAir currently operates its flights to selected cities, namely Delhi , Mumbai , Cochin , Ahmedabad, Goa, Jammu , Srinagar , Amritsar and Jaipur. In the coming months, the airline is planning to increase its services to other destinations including greater regional city connectivity of its network.
In Flight Services
GoAir allocates seats to travellers at checking-in for all flights, not in advance. The low cost airlines does not offer complimentary food and drinks on board. However, while flying, passengers can buy a range of snacks and drinks from the crew.
