Jet Airways is a private airline of India , having its base in Mumbai. Naresh Goyal is the owner of the country's largest private airline. Jet Airways is the country's second-biggest international airline after government owned Air India . Jet Airways History
Jet Airways began its domestic airline operations on 5th May 1993 with a fleet of four Boeing 737 - 300 aircraft. The present Chairman Naresh Goyal set up Jet Airways as a full-service scheduled airline to compete with government owned Indian Airlines.
On January 1995, Jet Airways got the scheduled airline status following amendments in 1953 Air Corporations Act. In March 2004, the airline started international operations to Sri Lankan capital Colombo and became an international carrier.
On October 13, 2008, Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal and Kingfisher Airline chief Vijay Mallya announced an alliance to overcome the recession. Highlights of the alliance are code-sharing on both domestic and international flights, combined fuel management to reduce cost, common ground handling and utilisation of crew.
Few days after the alliance with Kingfisher, Jet Airways laid off about 1900 employees. But, later, the airline Chief Naresh Goyal called back its sacked employees to work.
